The Nashoba Youth Orchestra is currently organized into two (2) large ensembles: the NYO String Orchestra and the NYO Symphonic Orchestra. Each group rehearses once per week on Mondays, starting in September and ending in May or June. There are at least two public concerts per year. New members are encouraged to participate in NYO’s annual auditions. These are held each Spring to form groups for the following year. Membership is by audition only; for both new applicants and for returning members who desire to move up a level. Auditions are also held in the fall and in January in order to fill shortages in instrumentation and to provide a way for members to join.
Each candidate should consult with his or her private teacher to select music he or she enjoys, and which emphasizes his or her technical and musical strengths.
The conditions of acceptance for each member include the current enrollment in private lessons on the auditioned instrument and the commitment to participate in the orchestra on a weekly basis for the entire year.
Cost
The cost for 2010-11 orchestra membership for the entire year is $475 per person, in addition to the non-refundable $25 audition fee which must be paid prior to the audition. Members’ costs will be prorated for those who join mid-season.

Alcyon Ensemble Chamber Music Program
Open to instrumentalists of all ages, students who elect to be part of this program may join as a pre-formed group or be assigned to a group. Pianists are encouraged to apply. Audition necessary for placement. Students will be coached by members of the Alcyon Chamber Ensemble, who are all committed teachers as well as performers. The program consists of ten coaching sessions, one dress rehearsal and one recital.
This will be offered subject to sufficient enrollment.
This program is open to musicians of any age.
Rehearsal times: Thursdays and Tuesdays; times mutually agreed upon by coach and ensemble members.
Note: This program is scheduled to start in October 2010 and run through the spring. Placement auditions to occur in September 2010.
Cost: $325 per person (or $300 per NYO member).
