Nashoba Youth Orchestra Announces Conductors for 2009-10 Season
Ms. Deanna Leedy and Mr. Jonathan Lam will be the Conductors for the NYO String Orchestra and NYO Symphonic Orchestra, respectively, and will start rehearsals in September 2009.
Deanna Leedy, conductor, teacher, and cellist, has just completed her first year with NYO as the Junior Orchestra conductor. Ms. Leedy has taught in the Weston, Massachusetts Public Schools for the past 5 years. She is the director of orchestras grade 3-6, chorus grade 6 and 7, and also teaches general music in grade 6 and 7. She was previously the Orchestra Manager at the Rivers Music Conservatory. She is also a member of the Massachusetts Music Education Association, has served as the Junior District Orchestra Manager and Assistant Concert Coordinator and is currently serving as the Junior Districts Concert Coordinator.
As a performer, she is currently Assistant Principal Cellist at the Rivers Symphony Orchestra; previously a member of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra. She has earned a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the Boston University College of Fine Arts and is currently pursuing her Masters in Music Education from the University of Hartford’s Hartt School in Connecticut. She teaches cello privately to students of all ages and levels and enjoys travel in her spare time.
Jonathan Lam will start leading rehearsals with the NYO Symphonic Orchestra in September. Mr. Lam, Conductor, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Quantitative Economics from Tufts University and a Masters in Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from Southern Illinois University. In addition to his new role with the Nashoba Youth Orchestras, he is the Music Director for the Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestra, Associate Conductor for the MetroWest Symphony Orchestra and cover conductor for the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra in Beverly, MA. Previous roles include Assistant Conductor of the Tufts Symphony, Assistant Conductor for the Kalistos Chamber Orchestra, Guest Conductor for the MetroWest Youth Symphony, cover conductor for the Southern Illinois Symphony, Guest Conductor for the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Conductor for the Worcester Youth Orchestras, Conductor for the Nashoba Youth Orchestras and Assistant Conductor for the Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra and Chorus.
As a violinist, he has played in numerous orchestras in the U.S. and Canada, including the violin and viola sections of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and served as Assistant Principal Viola in the Paducah Symphony (KY). In the summer of 2003, Mr. Lam attended the prestigious Pierre Monteux School for Conductors and Orchestra Musicians.
