NYO’s Spring Concert will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011. Programming for this concert is still being planned but will also feature the winner from this year’s concerto competition, which is held each January.

About NYO

The Nashoba Youth Orchestra (NYO) was founded in 2004 by a dedicated group of professional musicians, music educators, performers, and parents who share a common vision for a high-quality youth orchestra located in the Nashoba Valley region which will serve the needs of motivated musicians throughout the region.

Based in Westford, Massachusetts, NYO currently functions
under the not-for-profit umbrella of Westford’s Parish Center for the Arts. NYO’s suburban locale provides a fine alternative for orchestral experiences which would otherwise require traveling to Boston.

What people are saying…

…about the December 18, 2009 Winter Concert:

My husband is always so amazed at the talent in these orchestras!

The concert was fabulous! Everyone did such a great job!

… thank you for all that you do to keep the orchestra running smoothly. I’m very impressed with how well the organization is run and how well you keep the parents informed. This is as important as the music and we appreciate it

The quality of the playing of these kids is amazing!

I thoroughly enjoyed the music selections

The reception after the concert was also spectacular!

What people are saying…

Here is what participants and audience members had to say
after the recent NYO Members’ Recital:

Let me in behalf of WBC thank NYO and all who contributed for their generosity. My wife and I arrived during the intermission so that we were able to attend the second half of your program. All the participants did very well. It is very good to see students making beautiful music.  We hope that they will continue to practice and to perform!

I had no idea that there were so many talented musicians in
this area who could perform such beautiful music!

Congratulations on your fine performances
and for such a wonderful evening!!!
It was clear that everyone enjoyed the experience -
performers and audience members alike!

It was so great to hear such talent – represented
from all of the orchestra groups and such a variety! Bravo!

Our teacher always encourages our child to
perform when he can. This was a great experience. I hope
that you have more of these opportunities. Thankyou!

We enjoyed the recital the other evening.
Thank you for giving our daughter the chance to perform
for an audience. Performance practice is important to her
music education and it’s great that NYO provides those
opportunities.

Parent Feedback – Honors

This is what one Honors Orchestra parent had to say about the 2006-07 season:

It is very fortunate to have a local orchestra of such caliber. Thanks to the
efforts of the Honors Orchestra, led by George Ogata, Charles was able to perform masterpieces by Barber, Mozart, Beethoven, and Mendelsohnn. I applauded the brilliant performances for both Winter and Spring Concerts by all the Honor Orchestra members and George.

Member Feedback

One member who has since graduated and moved on to attend college had this to say about his experiences as a violinist in the Honors Orchestra:

…When everyone is playing together and you’re lost in the
music, when everyone’s in tune and the whole place is ringing,
it can give you goosebumps.”

Audience feedback

An audience member had this to say after attending the May 2007 Spring Finale:

What a wonderful experience! I am anxious for my friends to enjoy future performances…”

We worry that future generations will not be exposed to the great classics. We need not worry with people like yourself introducing them to such a rich musical heritage. Thankyou for a memorable afternoon…”

Ella Duncan, a Littleton sixth-grader, plays her violin during the Nashoba Youth Orchestra’s practice at the Westford Bible Church last week. Duncan won the Repertory Orchestra’s ”concerto competition,” earning the right to lead the orchestra in “Vivaldi’s Concerto in A minor” during Sunday’s concert.  Ella Duncan furiously slides the bow against the violin strings. The orchestra explodes with the sounds of cello, viola, string bass and violin. The composer is Vivaldi. The piece is “Concerto in A minor.”  “All of Vivaldi’s pieces are passionate and give the full experience,” Duncan said. A Littleton sixth-grader, Duncan is a member of the Nashoba Youth Orchestra.  She won the youth orchestra’s “concerto competition” by  performing Vivaldi’s “Concerto in A minor.”  Her prize is to lead the orchestra in Vivaldi’s piece at their upcoming concert on Sunday at Nashoba Valley Technical High School. “We want (the audience) to feel happy, excited and good about themselves,” Duncan said.    Continue reading “Lowell Sun – Moved by the Music (May 2007)” »
